In a rare piece of good news for the organisation. Football Federation Australia has finalised the lineups for a Socceroos All-Stars and World All-Stars holographic match to be played during this year’s A-League Grand Final pre-game entertainment.
A FFA spokesperson told FMF an international World All-Stars team, coached by the hologram of successful Dutch manager Rinus Micheal, will contain projections of such star-studded names as Garrincha, Eusebio, Bobby Moore, Stanley Mathews, Ference Puskas and Alfredo Di Stefano.
The World All-Stars will take on a team of Socceroos All-Stars, to be coached by the late Eddie Thompson, and will include names like, ”the Don Bradman of Australian football”, Reg Date, 1920’s pioneers James “Judy” Masters and Bill Maunder, 1930’s defender Jake “Digger” Evans and fan favourite Johnny Warren.
The FFA spokesperson said the match, championed by FFA chairman Frank Lowy, will be used as a poignant showcase of what the world of football missed out on when Australia was snubbed for the 2022 World Cup.
“Frank Lowy is still burning from the World Cup bid drama. He feels being able to bring to life names like Garrincha, Eusebio, and Alfredo Di Stefano in a showcase game against some of the best Australian players would help galvanise the Australian public into making a World Cup bid in the future.”
A hologram of 1980s Les Murray will be calling the match, alongside a hologram of Craig Foster, who will be in Barcelona at the time.
